Frequently Asked Questions
We are still building this list, if you have a question that’s not answered here, email us at staff@5dollartutorials.com!
Why are Drew Gardner’s tutorials $7.50 each? It may seem strange that we have a site named 5 Dollar Tutorials yet the first set of tutorials we are releasing are not $5 each. This is because we can’t undersell Drew who is selling them at 5 British Pounds each (about $7.80 last we checked). We still wanted to sell them though, and any tutorials that we produce ourselves will always be $5 or less.
What’s with the BETA in the logo? We built this site ourselves (Lan and Vu). It’s a WordPress site with a functional theme on it. We’re using a great shopping cart system (e-junkie) and everything is working well enough. But it’s only a functional first version of the site. It doesn’t have a very complex search function or organizational structure, and once we surpass 100 tutorials we are going to need to migrate to something much more powerful, which we will then have built. Until then we’ll be constantly updating and improving the site, but we’re still in BETA.
What is a Digital Download? When you purchase a tutorial from 5dollartutorials.com you are purchasing a Digital Download. This means you will download a zipped movie file directly to your computer and can then watch it there or on any compatible device. There will be no DVD or other physical media shipped to you, and you can move this file between any devices you own.
What format are the movie files? The movie files are .m4v Quicktime files using H.264 compression sized 1280×720 pixels with AAC audio format.
What the heck does that mean? This means it’s an HD file that is playable on virtually any modern computer and many mobile devices that support HD video.
How big are the files? Each episode is between 200MB and 500MB, which can take a long time to download. Be patient! We made the files the optimal size between quality and downloadability. Feel free to check your email, update your Twitter/Facebook status and perhaps go for a quick walk if the weather is nice.
What devices are supported? The files are optimized to play on laptop screens as well as iPhone 4, iPad and Apple TV. They will play on other devices as well, but these are the ones we have tested so far (let us know if you use it on others and we’ll add them!).
How do I make a purchase? Click the ‘Add to Cart’ button on any tutorial or the complete set and it will be added to your cart which will appear on your screen. Close the cart to continue shopping or continue with the checkout process. If you wish to checkout at any time you can click the ‘View Shopping Cart’ link at the top right of any page and you’ll be taken to your cart where you can check out.
How do I download the episodes after making my purchase? As you complete your purchase you will be given links to download your files. Don’t worry, if you close the page or can’t download them right away you’ll get an email with the links as well. You have 120 hours to download all your files. So don’t go on vacation right after you purchase.
